I’ve learned that there is a typical Chinese breakfast called “Tofu Brains,” which literally means tofu pudding. I was so curious how it tastes… so I tried ordering Tofu Brains from Meituan Waimai, a food delivery app that is widely used in China.

I’ve also heard that dipping Youtiao (油条), long brown deep-fried strips of wheat flour dough, into the tofu pudding would also taste good! I asked my Chinese friend why this dish is called “Tofu Brains.” She said because it looks like it. hehe According to Wikipedia, Tofu Brains became a popular snack during the Han Dynasty(202 BC – 9 AD, 25–220 AD) .

The soup was hot and had a nice thickness. I think the tofu was slightly salty and I could taste some peppers, too.

The soup came with chili oil, garlic paste, and chopped coriander.
You can add them and enjoy different flavors as you like.

I also ordered fresh soy milk called Doujiang (豆漿), in the above picture it is on the left. ![]()

I was told to drink the soymilk within 4 hours after my purchase. I think it means that it is best to consume as soon as possible since it doesn’t contain any food preservation. The soymilk tasted slightly sweet.![]()

It was only 19.48 yuan for all of them. (About $2.74) ![]()
Here is the information about the restaurant where I ordered the Tofu Brains.

It was just so much fun trying a new dish! I want to explore and find new kinds and flavors of Chinese food! If you have any recommendations for food that I should try, please let me know!
