Hi there!Welcome to my blog.
I’m Sachiko. I was born and raised in Japan. I am currently living in Shenyang, China as an expat family. Our previous post was Manila, Philippines. We lived there for 4 years. Besides having lived in Japan, the US, the Philippines, and China, I have also visited India to join a volunteer work at “Mother Teresa’s Kalighat Home for the sick and dying” for one week, and worked at a care home in North Wales as a volunteer activity staff for one year. I have also traveled to Thailand and Spain.

The reason why I started learning and making Japanese traditional sweets was because I became home sick after living overseas for a long time. Around that time when I had my first daughter back in 2016, I saw on my phone a picture of beautiful Japanese traditional sweets which was in a shape of chrysanthemum. I was so moved by this beautifully handcrafted traditional sweet and all the memories that I have from my life in Japan. Since then, I have decided to try learning and making Wagashi on my own even though the ingredients for making the sweets were limited in the US.

I’ve realized that making Wagashi is not just for fun, but also a journey of learning about my own country, and myself. And also, I have been able to see the world through Wagashi by noticing the beauty of each place I’ve lived in. Most importantly, Wagashi has taught me to live true to myself with confidence wherever I live.

In 2022, I had a lot of opportunities to do my Wagashi making workshops for schools in the US. In the spring in 2023, I presented in English about the Charm of Nerikiri Wagashi on a stage of the Sakura Matsuri Japanese Street Festival, known as the biggest outdoor Japanese festival in the United States.

My blog will be about my daily experience as an expat family, making Japanese traditional sweets called “WAGASHI” while I am overseas, and my days as a mom of 2. My children are 7 years old and 4 years old. They both are bilingual in Japanese and English.
