Last month, before the Christmas holiday, we went to a shopping mall called, STAR MALL.

Since we heard that the weather was going to be super cold the following week, we wanted to go somewhere warm and do some fun things.
By the way there is an IKEA next to this mall. 😀

The Christmas Market at Star Mall.
When we went to this mall it was during the Christmas season, so the mall was holding a Christmas Market on the first floor. And unexpectedly, we found a vendor that sells Chinese sugar paintings, a traditional Chinese folk art.

You can pick designs from the menu in the above picture.

I chose a dragon!

My daughter chose this peacock.

After I did a little research about the sugar painting, I learned that it has 600 years of history and it was originally said that sugar paintings were an offering to a god during the Ming dynasty (1368 to 1644). The sugar painting was inspired by shadow puppets and folk paper-cutting, and the craftsman integrated them into candy-making with intricate designs.
It was so amazing to see how beautifully each candy was made by the artist with just hot liquid sugar and a ladle. I am so glad that we could witness this sugar painting. There were many vendors at the Christmas Market, but this booth was very popular and we loved seeing them so much! I hope we can see other sugar paintings someday!
