We have been experiencing below-freezing weather in Shenyang… Today, I would like to share information about getting groceries online. The delivery fee costs from less than a dollar to about $4. I think it is a very reasonable price if you think about your time getting ready to go outside in the cold winter. If there is a grocery store near your place, it is fine unless you bundle up well and go outside for about 10 minutes. Especially the inside of the store is warm with the heating system.

There are many convenient shopping apps in China. I often use two different apps for getting groceries. This one is called “Sam’s Club.”

Sam’s Club（Same-day Delivery）

We were Costco members in the US, and this is just like that. If you want to become a member of Sam’s Club, you need to visit the physical store first, and the staff will help you register in their system. Please do not forget to bring your IDs! They will ask for them. And the 2nd store I often use is Walmart.

Walmart（Same-day Delivery）

For Walmart, you register your name and address in the app. After ordering your items, usually the groceries will be delivered on the same day. Sometime, the delivery staff will call you when they don’t have items or want to replace it with the other item. It’s still hard to answer the phone call in Chinese, but most of the time I just respond saying “好的（hao da）”　and try to get through the calls. But before using the shopping apps, you need to open a local bank account in China. I wrote a little bit about getting a Chinese bank account in my past blog, please visit the blog post if you are interested. *The Chinese bank part is mentioned after half of my blog post.

There are more online shops available on an app called “Meituan(美団）.” You download it and you tap a section called “超市便利(Supermarket)” like I included in the screenshot below. You can see that more shops can deliver items the same day that you order them.

Also, the Meituan app has a food delivery option, too! When you don’t feel like you want to cook dinner, you can always get food delivered. These restaurants listed below are places that I have tried. 🙂

For food delivery, you tap a section called “外卖(waimai),” which I circled in blue.

Chinese Dumplings🥟🔽

For this dumplings store, one order has 13 to 15 dumplings! The dumpling skin is so good too! The pictures below are from when we had lunch at their restaurant. The glass of water in the picture is actually boiled water from cooking the dumplings. The store staff told me that you can drink or add the cooked water into the dumpling sauce and eat the dumplings.

They have two kinds of sweet bean soup, one with mochi and another with lotus root seeds. They’re eaten as dessert! We love them!

“蜜雪氷城”Mixue Bingcheng, milk tea and fruit tea, also they have ice cream too!🤤

This one is hot milk tea with sweet red beans! I love them!
